Back Track: June 2012 – Cosplay Debut

June has always been my favorite month and this year it’s been incredible, despite the crazy humidity that plagued Manila then (and it’s supposedly the rainy season by now). I felt like if I was to make a come back entry after my long hiatus, I chose to have a backtrack entry of what transpired last month: my boyfriend and I cosplayed for the first time.

Yes, indeed we cosplayed and debuted at the 11th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention/Toy Con last June 16 and 17. And which characters did we cosplay? Well…

We cosplayed Tiger Ranger and Mammoth Ranger from Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger and/or it’s Western (and perhaps more popular) counterpart: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

It was my boyfriend’s idea to cosplay in the first place, which is something new to us. P initially had this idea buzzing in his head for a while that he wanted to try to cosplay but didn’t have any idea what character would fit him. At the time we we’re totally immersed in our fandom of super sentai and that was it! We decided to do it to together and we we’re totally psyched about it! In our heads, if we were going to cosplay and debut, we had to do it right and not just some half-assed effort. This was a big deal and this was our tribute to our childhood after all.

If it wasn’t for all of this effort and his encouragement, I wouldn’t have been able to cosplay Tiger Ranger. There was a lot of effort that went through the preparation phase and I owe a lot to my dedicated boyfriend for making this little dream of ours come true. Of course this wouldn’t be possible as well for the support we had. Our costumes were made by people a lot more talented than us and they were wonderful to work with. They definitely gave us quality work for the vision that we had.

Coincidentally, it was the 20thAnniversary since the release of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and it was just timely that we were able to cosplay the character this year at our debut cosplay gig. I’ll let the pictures do the talking now. These pictures belong to my boyfriend (they were actually taken by a friend of ours using P’s camera) and if you have any inquiries or whatsoever feel free to comment. Thank you very much to all those who saw us and supported us during the Philippine Toy Con 2012!

(We weren’t with these guys but we were so happy we got to pose with the Biomen crew!)

We couldn’t have done it without you, Sir Clark!

P: Just your banana ranger being extremely cute in the corner 😀

We’ll never forget that feeling of being “one” with the costume and the exciting moment of being in the spotlight and surrounded by adoring people who love the characters you cosplay as much as you do. It felt wonderful that we were able to take the audience back to their childhood days by letting us know through their kind cheers and compliments and there’s something that connects our different generations together! This has been such a fun and significant experience for us, we have no regrets whatsoever and being able to experience this together for the first time adds to it’s quality of “specialness”.
We would love to cosplay these characters again and hopefully next time, the whole crew would be complete! It’s just us two this time, but who knows hopefully Red, Pink, Blue and Green Ranger would join us!

    • Thanks for dropping by my blog! I’m sorry, but I don’t know where to find the helmet. Have you tried looking for it online, if there’s any available ready-made ones? We had our helmets customized by someone. I hope that helps.
